Can you get a automobile loan on a automobile that you already own?
I plan to purchase a new car. I would like to finance a portion of the purchase through a credit union. If I buy the automobile with cash (actually a check), would a credit union or back have a problem giving me a loan after I already own the automobile (assuming that I qualify)? To clarify – I am just not sure if I need to get the loan before I buy the car, or if it can be done afterward.

Ok, so I am planning to get a new automobile in sept. I am planning on getting a automobile loan from my own bank rather than finance it through the dealer. I was told I need to get the loan approved before I go to the dealer. But this day we went to the bank and was told that I need to go to the dealer first to get a price quote? Then come back to them? How is that going to work? Will the dealer try to hold me back from getting a loan from the bank.

My soon to be ex husband is behind two payments on his truck loan. I have been getting letters in the mail and phone calls from the finance company. The finance company says I cannot go get the vehicle. Are they right? They say the only thing I can do is wait until car is repo’d and then pick it up and pay the fees and get payments caught up to take possession of the vehicle.
